He began his studies with José Sanluis Rey, a distinguished pupil and personal friend of Andrés Segovia. He went on to earn the Advanced Degree in Guitar under José Luis Rodrigo at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, completing his training with some of the most influential guitarists on the international scene, among them David Russell, John Williams, and Manuel Barrueco.

As a performer he has maintained an intense concert schedule in Spain and across Europe, appearing as a soloist, with orchestra, and in chamber ensembles. His repertoire ranges from Renaissance music to contemporary creation, and he has premiered numerous works written expressly for him, including two concertos for guitar and orchestra.

His playing is marked by particular care for the shape of the musical discourse, richness of timbre, and respect for each composer's language.

Teaching has been one of the pillars of his career: he was professor and later full professor at the Conservatorio Superior de Música of A Coruña for more than three decades, training generations of guitarists and leaving a deep mark on advanced guitar teaching in Spain.

His interest in research led to a master's degree in Musical Research from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, with a study devoted to Isaac Albéniz and his relationship with the guitar — a line of inquiry he continues to pursue and which informs much of his artistic work.

His discography reflects a firm commitment to recovering, studying, and disseminating the Spanish guitar repertoire. It is headed by Federico Moreno Torroba: Guitar Music, Yesterday and Today of a Great Maestro, released on the Italian label Da Vinci Classics — a broad panorama of the guitar music of one of the great Spanish composers of the twentieth century.

The recording was warmly received internationally: selected for broadcast by BBC Radio 3, with notable reviews across Europe and Asia. Japan's Gendai Guitar highlighted the soundness of the project's artistic vision and the performer's ability to convey the character, the sonic landscape, and the essence of Spanish music, singling out his reading of the Castillos de España series; Italian critics valued the coherence of the journey through Torroba's work and praised the expressiveness, evocative richness, and musical refinement of his versions.

Alongside his concert activity, he has made recordings devoted both to the historic repertoire and to contemporary Spanish music, premiering works by living composers and actively contributing to the expansion of the guitar repertoire.

He now works from the historic Pazo de Souto in Begonte (Lugo), where he has built his own recording studio. From there he combines performance, musicological research, record production, and masterclasses, in projects devoted to the international projection of the Spanish guitar heritage.

His path reflects a view of interpretation in which research, tradition, and artistic excellence form part of a single commitment to the music — one aimed at deepening the Spanish repertoire and contributing to its international projection.
